Case History: Wild Welsh Hill

 

Wild Welsh Hill own two organic dairy farms on a spring calving pasture fed dairy system, one in Shropshire and the other in Talerddig, Powys. They have used A2 genetics on their Jersey cross Friesian cows and have a niche product producing organic, pasture-fed A2 milk. Both farms are antibiotic-free and keep detailed medical records.

The company was keen to identify potential partners in the UK; ideally producers of butter and cheese, and at the same time find opportunities overseas both in terms of collaboration and sales outlets. The international aspect of the research focused on the growing markets of UAE, Qatar and North America.

In late 2018 and January 2019 SCI met with and discussed all aspects of the business and the assistance required. SCI subsequently researched and produced a report highlighting potential business development contacts both in the UK in terms of exporters and butter and cheese producers with whom Wild Welsh Hill could collaborate, and secondly, overseas, where growing opportunities in Qatar, the UAE and North America are supported by well established distribution networks of food importers, distributors and retail outlets.  Routes to market for Wild Welsh Hill were identified and recommendations made to email the most positive contacts to ascertain compatibility and interest.

The comprehensive report covered the organic / health markets, key retail outlets, distributors and trade fairs. It highlighted UK dairy producers large and small with whom Wild Welsh Hill could potentially collaborate in terms of production and exporting and it shed light on the numerous elements to influence product price.
